The EGX booth demo, on the other hand, provided a much more generous selection of characters and stages which gave players a better impression of how the full game would be. The rules were restricted to 2 minute matches in the demo, and you play against CPU characters drawn from all the characters available from the start (all set at level 3, which is accessible to players who are new to Super Smash Bros). The choice of characters range from representatives from the staple Nintendo franchises (such as the Mario series) to more niche games like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade. Gamers often collect pieces of memorabilia to go with their gaming obsession, like the recently announced and beautiful looking Link on the Crimson Skyloft statue from First 4 Figures, or the statues that often come with the collectors editions of games. They look pretty, sure, but all they do is sit on their shelf and stare at your with their dead eyes. Recently however, I was fortunate enough to get a hands on preview of Nintendos upcoming Amiibo line of figures that promise functionality across the entire line of the Wii U and 3DS catalog, and I witnessed an otherwise idle but well designed Pikachu figurine come to life in Super Smash Bros Wii U and summarily kick my butt. Nintendo, youre definitely on to something here.
